Everything becomes so much harder at work if the people you work with don't share your assumptions about what you're trying to do. That's why organisations spend so much time hammering out mission statements and identifying core values.

When choosing a consultant you need to bear in mind that their time with you will be limited - so it's important not to waste it. You need to be confident that they have  empathy with the things you're trying to do and the ethical basis from which you work.

The basic values which underpin my approach to work are quite simple:

  • I'll only do work which is compatible with helping vulnerable people
  • I'll only do work which I have reasonable grounds to think I can do well
  • I'll only do work which allows me to offer an equality of regard to everyone I work with, and for, irrespective of their background.
  • I'll always use my experience to add value to a piece of work - and never palm anyone off with a 'one-size-fits-all ' approach. Every piece of work I undertake will be 'bespoke'
  • If you've asked me the wrong question, or set me off on a task which presents problems you haven't thought about, then I'll tell you as soon as I realise this. I'll also give you the opportunity to withdraw from the contract
  • If I make mistakes I know about then I'll tell you
