Here's a snap shot of what I did before becoming an independent consultant.
1999-2006: Director, SITRA | Lead Officer for second tier umbrella body. Tripled turnover, doubled staff. Opened offices outside London for first time. Took part in regular consultative meetings with ODPM, Housing Corporation, DWP, DoH, Home Office, NHF and Local Government Associations. Played key role in development of Supporting People reform. |
1997-99:consultant with Civis Consultants | Carried out Housing Corporation funded study of funding patterns, Who Pays for What in Supported Housing? Also delivered action research projects on street drinkers' needs for Sefton MBC and on tenant disputes for LB Camden. Many other consultancy projects, including investigations of alleged bullying in a voluntary sector provider and of alleged service user neglect in a care home. |
1994-97:External Relations Manager, Stonham Housing Association | Twice seconded to Housing Corporation - once to develop the SHMG Review system (1994-5) and once to draft the Corporation's supported housing strategy(1996-7). Gave evidence on supported housing to Commons Select Committee Enquiry into Housing Need. |
| 1989-94: Deputy Director, Alcohol Recovery Project | Second level officer for specialist housing association with turnover of c£3m and staff of c60. Spent 4 months as Acting Director due to line manager's sick leave. During this time co-ordinated a Judicial Review against DoH over details of introduction of Community Care, with wide support from both provider sector and local authorities. |
| 1988-89: Director, Brixton Circle Projects | Lead officer of small local provider of supported housing and day care 'drop-in' services for (a) single homeless and (b) Afro Caribbean people with a history of mental disorder. |
| 1987-88: Director, Belvedere Trust | Sole employee of charitable trust associated with large general needs housing association. |
| 1982-87: Various posts @ what became Opendoor Housing Trust, before later merging with Threshold Housing Association. | Started as project worker in a 100 bed direct access homelessness hostel; became Development Officer working with 8 different housing associations to produce replacement accommodation in 16 separate schemes. Spent 9 months as Acting Director due to maternity leave of line manager. |
